The Three Blockers for Adopting AI and How to Overcome Them
What is going on?
Why isn't everyone using AI every day for work already?
Why is it that in every business, there are one or two people who use AI a lot, but many others don’t?
Let me share the three blockers I see and how to remove them.
Blocker #1: Too Many Tools
There are so many AI tools out there—how do we decide which ones to use?
The solution is simple: don’t worry about all the hundreds of new tools that come out every day.
Most of them are very young, and only some will survive to become mainstream.
Choose one established, mainstream tool and get your team started with it.
If you only choose one tool for your team, choose a mainstream general-purpose one like ChatGPT (Teams plan), Claude, Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini.
They will give your team the most capabilities to use as they are developing the skill of using AI.
Not sure where to begin? Start with a Teams account on ChatGPT and go from there.
Blocker #2: Uncertainty About Sharing Confidential Information
Many (rightfully) hesitate because they’re not sure if they’re allowed to use AI, especially when it involves sharing sensitive client information.
But asking your team to learn how to use AI without sharing the data they are working on, is like asking them to learn how to cook without real ingredients, no water, and no oven—it just doesn’t work.
Here’s how to fix it:
Provide paid, secure accounts.
Read the tool's security policy and privacy information.
Configure the correct security settings in the tool.
Create a policy that explicitly states what’s allowed and what isn’t.
Clarity gives people a safe environment to explore, learn, and innovate.
Blocker #3: Not Knowing How AI Fits Into Daily Workflows
We all know that AI can write sonnets in the style of Shakespeare, but how does it apply to my every day processes?
This is where training and a lot of communication come in.
Show your team examples of how AI can work for them:
Summarising information.
Brainstorming ideas.
Acting as tech support.
Writing in their brand voice or personal voice.
And all the other categories that apply to your business...
In training sessions, I break it down into categories and guide teams through their actual workflows to identify use cases. Once people see examples, they take off.
The Result?
I see it every day: after one or two sessions, businesses go from a few occasional users to a team where everyone is engaged with AI. And that’s exactly what we want.
I know that it works, my stats show that after just two training sessions, we can get 95% of a team to be using AI regularly.
AI is powerful, and it’s also one of the easiest technologies to start using—all you need is English.
Remove the roadblocks for your team, and you’ll have a group that’s engaged, skilled, and ready for what’s next.
Let me know your thoughts, and feel free to reach out if I can help your business remove its AI blockers.
