Do You Want to See How I Use Canvas in ChatGPT?

Let me share one of my favourite ChatGPT features: Canvas.

It's brilliant because it does two key things - makes our work more efficient and gets us working with AI in a whole new way.

Why Canvas Makes Sense

Think about how we usually work with ChatGPT - we ask for something, get an answer, ask for changes, then it writes the whole thing again.

It's a bit clunky, right?

Canvas changes all that by letting us work directly with the AI in one space, actually collaborating on a document together.

Here's How Canvas Works

Let me show you what I mean with a real example. Say you're writing an email about an advanced Excel training course. With Canvas, you can:

  1. Get your first draft in the workspace

  2. ChatGPT writes a draft

  3. You can edit bits in the draft itself

  4. You can ask ChatGPT to fix specific parts without redoing everything

  5. Add more detail wherever you need it

When you are done, you can copy the result and use it wherever you need.

Getting Started

It's pretty straightforward:

  1. Switch to GPT-4 with canvas

  2. Type "show this as a canvas" to receive your result in a canvas

Sometimes ChatGPT decides to open a canvas on its own, because it gets that it makes sense.

You can have multiple canvases in the same conversation and switch between them.

Just a heads up - Canvas is part of the paid version at the moment. If you're using the free version, you might need to upgrade to give it a go.

What's Next

Canvas is a big step forward in how we work with AI.

Other AI tools have similar functions, but I favour the ChatGPT option.

Why?

Claude, had its own collaborative option earlier, called Artifacts, but it doesn't allow me to type over the text like ChatGPT does.

Jasper has even more powerful collaboration options, but costs significantly more.

Microsoft Copilot in Word or Google Gemini in Docs offer similar functionality. If you have access to them, give them a go.

My recommendation

If you don't have your own preferred tool, I suggest you try Canvas in ChatGPT.

It's the most feature rich and cost-effective option right now.

I love how these tools are improving all the time.

Let's see what comes up next!
