AI Gets it Wrong!
Have you seen the headline? "AI chatbots distort and mislead when asked about current affairs."
This article shows that while summarising news, AI got 20% of the facts and quotes wrong. It made things up.
It’s true—AI gets things wrong. But here’s the other side of the story: it also gets 80% of things right.
That’s a powerful statistic when you think about it. Imagine having a tool that does 80% of the heavy lifting for you. All you need to do is verify the remaining 20%.
The real question is: Do we let AI’s 20% imperfection hold us back, or do we embrace the 80% accuracy to become faster and more efficient?
Have a look at this video showing the article I am referring to.
The Reality of AI’s Imperfection
Recently, a BBC article pointed out that AI chatbots made factual errors about political figures and misquoted sources.
About 1 in 5 answers contained factual mistakes—dates, numbers, or statements were wrong.
But we are seeing these tools get better at startling speed.
What was once a 50% success rate has now improved to 80%, and it’s only going to get better.
So, what can we do with that 80%?
How to Leverage AI’s 80% Accuracy
If you’re using AI in a field where you’re already an expert, the solution is simple:
Review the output carefully
Correct the 20% that’s inaccurate
Use the rest to save time and effort
If you’re exploring a new topic, though, make sure to:
Verify every fact with third-party sources
Cross-check all references for accuracy
This way, you get the best of both worlds—AI’s efficiency and human expertise.
Why Embracing AI’s Imperfection Is the Smart Move
We can’t wait for AI to be 100% perfect before we start using it. If we do, we’ll be left behind.
Instead, we should:
Become AI literate
Learn to use it safely and responsibly
Empower our teams to leverage its strengths while understanding its limitations
When the big changes come—AI agents, computer assistants, and more—we’ll be ready to embrace it all.
What This Means for You
I’m not saying we should trust AI blindly. Far from it.
But let’s not allow fear of imperfection to stop us from harnessing its incredible potential.
Ask yourself:
Am I ready to embrace AI’s 80% accuracy?
Can I train myself and my team to review, verify, and use AI output effectively?
Will I let 20% imperfection stop me, or will I leverage the 80% advantage?
·
The future belongs to those who are ready to adapt.
Are you?
What will you do with AI’s 80% accuracy?
