Discover Generative Search - Your Next Step with AI
This is my second ever newsletter, it will get better all the time. I am glad you are on this journey with me!
Remember how Google transformed our world? Well, some of us are old enough to remember 😄
Now it seems like the age of Google search is over, and we are moving to Generative Search, which is even better.
If you haven’t started exploring generative search yet, don’t worry—it's not too late. The sooner you get started, the faster you can build this new skill that will transform how you search for information. And trust me, it’s easier than you think!
Let me share a quick story. During a recent workshop in Toowoomba, I asked the participants what they wanted to search for using AI. One person suggested, “How do you compress a watermelon?” At first, I thought it was a joke, but it turns out it’s a real thing!
Have a look at the video below to see how I used generative search to learn about compressing watermelons and what results I received.
The Power of Generative Search
Using a tool called Perplexity, I typed in the query, and it pulled up several methods – from freezing to vacuum sealing. Perplexity not only provided direct answers but also showed references for each source, making it easy to verify and dive deeper into reliable information.
Here’s how generative search works:
Ask any question – Perplexity takes your question, interprets it, and searches across various sources.
Generates relevant answers – It reads, summarises, and even categorises information, like creating a comparison table if you need it.
References sources – You’ll see links to original articles, so you can verify the information, an essential feature for work-related queries.
Other Tools to Try
If you’re using ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Google Gemini, you’ll find similar generative search capabilities. But for now, Perplexity is leading the way in this space. The best part? The free account on Perplexity is all you need to get started.
Give this a go, fall in love, and teach everyone around you, so that you are always surrounded by capable, empowered people!
Let’s keep learning together!
Let me know how you go with generative search, or with this newsletter in general.
I'd like to get better at this, so feel free to reply.
